Paddling Jenny Lake Grand Tetons
Nessie At Jenny Lake Grand Teton National Park
After watching the sunrise and eating breakfast, we headed to Jenny Lake for our first paddle in Grand Teton National Park. We had to stop at the park visitor center to register Nessie before we could paddle. The cost was $10. Nessie now has a bright and shinny Grand Tetons sticker. We got Nessie off the minivan and headed out into the lake.
One of the features of the lakes in the Grand Tetons National Park is that the mountains come right out of the lake. There's lake and then there's mountains. Quite different from paddling back home in North Carolina.
Except for the boat taking hikers from one side of the lake to the other, we had the lake to ourselves. We didn't see any birds or other wildlife. Just lots of beautiful scenery.
The mountains around Jenny Lake are rugged and sharp. There are trees near the base of the mountains, but the tops are bare. Quite impressive.
After awhile the wind started to pick up and an afternoon shower looked like it was ready to move into the area. We really didn't want to get caught on the lake in a thunder storm. So we headed back to the launch site. We got off the lake and Nessie loaded onto the minivan before the storm hit.
Although the storm ended our paddling, we didn't stop exploring the park.
