Yellowstone National Park
Although we had to pass through Yellowstone National Park on our way from Cody, WY to Glacier National Park, we were limited in the time we could spend there. Because we had spent considerable time in Yellowstone several years ago, we limited our visit to a simple drive through the park. We wanted to see Yellowstone Falls, a few of the thermal features, and whatever else appeared along the way. To have done more would have required adding additional weeks to the trip, time we really didn't have on this trip.
Sylvan Lake
We entered the park through the East Entrance coming from Cody, WY. This allowed us to visit an area of the park that we missed in our 1999 visit (Sylvan Pass was closed due to snow then). The road goes over Sylvan Pass (8,530 feet) and past Sylvan Lake. After we passed Sylvan Lake, we had a great view of Yellowstone Lake.

Pelican Valley
On our way to Lake Village,we passed Pelican Valley where the white pelicans summer. We were too late to see the pelicans, but the view of the valley was still worth stopping for. North Carolina is one of the places where the white pelicans winter (see Pea Island, NC.)
